Depends On Your Stance On Spyro
This Game was a good game in my opinion not the best but enough to call it good and worth a buy. Also Depends on how much you like Spyro what I considered was a lot of people didn't really favor this game due to it's dramatic change. To sum up a short stand point of this not really a review but just my thoughts this game definitely was good and could of been longer. The game overall felt different which is good and an all star cast which is cool. Finally I would like to say that I liked this game very much and that you might if you give it a try.

Best 6 hours I ever spent ^^
On the day I bought this, I got it for really cheap at the GameStop in my fave mall. I get home, put it in the console, and it was AMAZING!! ^^ I had originally played the GBA version, but seeing it in better graphics just made it even better. ^^
I grew up playing Spyro, and it's been in my life forever. So I am a hardcore Spyro fan. When I heard about this game, I was pretty excited, but nervous that i would ruin Spyro for me due to a different story line(And lack of G nasty G norc) but I think it made me love Spyro even more. ^^ His voice is actually better then it was in the original, and we get to see more of Sparks which makes it even better. ^^
If your a big fan of Spyro, go get this game. And if you beat it on the day you bought it, I would suggest having more caffeine. ^^

Mixed Feelings
To be up front this game is nothing like the PS1 games. You don't run around collecting eggs or gems. The game is a rather simplistic beat-em up that also offers some bare basics platforming. This game feels like it has more in common with games like Malice then the older Spyro games.
======================
That being said this isn't a bad game in many respects. The combat is rather simplistic offering the use of various elemental breath techniques that are unlocked as you advance through the story and a multitude of basic melee combos. For the most part you will rely on the melee attacks through the game since your breath attacks quickly diminish your magic pool. You can also use a secondary elemental attack that is similar to a bomb and a powerful area of effect attack if you fill up a purple meter near your health gauge.
Musically the game offers a few tracks that are decent, but the piece on the title screen is probably the most moving in the game. It captures a sense of wonder and exploration.
Graphically the game is decent. I'm not the best judge of this aspect of the game since I'm not all that picky when it comes to the graphics. I did notice a few hiccups though where an enemy would be seen running through a wall and a few slow down issues caused by too much stuff happening on the screen at once.
Characters: Many of the characters in this game are lacking in any personality. While they have traits and fill certain archetypes you never learn enough about them to be all that interested in them. Spyro is also a bit lacking. We often see Spyro express self-doubt and later on become more confident in his abilities, but this growth feels unnatural in a weird way. I can't say that I disliked Spyro's character in this game, but it feels like it needs more development. On the other hand I found Sparx to be highly annoying and a pointless addition to this game. Sparx is highly sarcastic, but never says anything that is funny or even all that amusing. The character feels like a waste since he doesn't even represent your health bar anymore.
The main villain of the game gets it far worse though. We only see Cynder a few times during the game and learn almost nothing about her until around the last 10 minutes of the game. She also never comes across as all that powerful or intimidating either. I guess, this fits in with her origin, but it makes the character feel like wasted potential.
Stages: This game only offers a few levels which are broken down into 6 ground based levels and 2 flying levels. This makes the game easy to beat over the course of a two day period. Especially since the game offers a re-spawn feature after you die and an infinite number of lives.
Story: The story for this game is more about Spyro's origin and his journey to discover what it means to be the prophesied purple dragon. This isn't a bad thing, but it means the game is largely laying groundwork for the next game.

A good introduction to Spyro
I just played this yesterday, and was surprised at how great this game was. I found addictive gameplay, great gameplay, great graphics, great sound, and a superbly deep story...deeper than most I know of.
Not just is this a great Spyro game but is one of the greatest games I know of. This is a gem you must add to your collection The game's gameplay is simple, addictive and challenging enough to keep you playing but not throw the remote into the screen from frustration.
As soon as the game finished, I wanted to play it again. If you're interested in this game or need a good introduction to him, I can think of no better game than this.

great growth!!
I grew up with the original spyro and it was fun but nothing compared to this major overhaul!! I'd highly recommend this game for people who like an easy game to play with their kids or just in general.

this game is really good, incredible voice acting!
I found this game browsing youtube one night, I had seen the commerchials a long time ago for this series, and they looked epic, but I ignored them, and I'm sorry I did, I just got the first two games today, and let me say that I am greatly pleased with this game, I'm not gonna lie, It's been awhile since I picked up my PS2 controller instead of my Xbox 360 controller. is it like the original games? I would say hardly, but that really didn't matter for me. the story in the game is incredible as well and has voice acting that has exceeded my expectations, with Spyro voiced by none other than Elijah Wood. yes, Frodo Baggins from the Lord Of the Rings. my only complaint is that the bad guys make the same sound over and over and over and over and over, but dont let that one minor fact ruin the game for you, because overall, it is a very good game. recommended for any who like a good adventure.

Spyro Comes Back Like a Whole New Game
It was action packed however if you like the original Spyro, this games nothing like it. Don't expect to collect things. Its mostly just leveling up like Final Fantasy I beat the game in less than two days and I take forever while playing a video game. One MAJOR plus to me is the voice acting however, I liked David Spade as Sparks. Just be aware that in the sequel, Eternal Night, there is a different voice actor (sounds like Fry from Futurama). So throughout the game you get ambushed maybe every ten minutes.Your always fighting enemies. Myself I couldn't wait for a break from pressing " X " over and over. The storyline is nice but there's not too many scenes. The music sounds like Fable or Lord of the Rings. It is pretty neat learning different elements but they only work for enemies and you can't use them on the environment to, say, freeze water so you can walk over it (or just for fun), or burn trees or some pay back by electrocuting the floor. I would recommend the game to someone who wants to continually smash baddies but not for a fan of the classic game. I thought it had potential to be more though.

Spyro: A Legendary Suprise
I just beat this game a few hours ago on gamecube and overall I was ver suprised. My discovery of this rebooted series started about a month ago when I was looking for something new and my brother spotted it and we thought it looked interesting for a Spyro game. Anyway I picked up a different game cause I still wasnt sure, but I came home and looked into it and decided to take the other one back and get it 2 days later. The production value of the game was great because of the clean graphics and the actors they got to do the voices. Elijah Wood is Spyro, while Sparx is played by David Spade and Ignitus is played by Gary Oldman. I then discovered that this was the start of a trilogy that is completely overlooked. Just days ago my brother got the third one that completes the trilogy which is even better than this one. I also forgot to mention the upgradable powers and fury attacks that are in the game also and it also has a series of combos and techniques for you to master. The game is only seven hours and the combat can get repetative at times but with a new story, talented voice acting, graphics, and upgrabable combat overall I found a real gem. If you were never really into Spyro games then you might wanna pick this one up, for me Spyro was a curiousity that I never persued
