Lord of the Rings: War in the North
I think this way of this game-
I love the game and i had it for xbox but i got rid of my xbox but i am going to get it for ps3 so i just hope they have some in stock becuase i am going to get it for sure!
LotR: War in the North-Solid RPG
War in the North is a fun hack n' slash rpg, with some cool customization and satisfyingly brutal combat. I had an issue with a glitch after the Mirkwood level, but got around it by playing online(make sure to speak to Beleram the eagle every opportunity in the Mirkwood stage). But other than that bug, I had a blast with this game. The difficulty level was just right, and once you play through it, it unlocks a harder difficulty to play, giving you some nice re-play value. Over-all, this is a solid RPG. It won't be a classic, but it's a perfectly enjoyable time waster.
I've never really been a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings, but I still really enjoyed this game. There's a good story, there's a lot of different characters and weapons and abilities. A lot of people have said that they experienced glitches with their game, but I never had any problems. One thing that would make this game even better, would be if you could totally create your own character, with its own unique appearance. But overall, this is a pretty fun game, and it's kinda fun to chop the arms off of monsters and stuff.
Avoid This Game
Okay, I wanted a good coop action RPG. I know it won't be as good as Skyrim or any other big RPG, but I came in with vast disappointment. First off.. Don't play this game alone. Its way better with a friend. I was playing with my brother. Playing with a friend or family member improves the game substantially. Sadly the game is only involves repetitive action. There's nothing to it. They're no puzzles and you stay on a predetermined path. I was kind of hoping for a little bit of freedom. That's not what I got sadly. Like any RPG, you can customize your fighter. You can't create you character altogether. But you can select armor and weapons. Let me go back to my other point about it being repetitive. This is the big problem with the game! There's no substance to it at all. But if you like games like Dynasty Warriors, this probably won't be that big of a deal (I'm not insulting Dynasty Warriors). Seeing that this is a coop action, I expect some sort of strategy. There really isn't any. If too many enemies are attacking your comrades, you can get them to back off by shooting them with arrows or spells. Now here's the part that really frustrates me. Near the end of the game, I was fighting a troll. Unfortunately, the troll took me down. So my brother would try to distract the troll so my A.I. partner can heal me. But the troll goes after the A.I. partner rather than my brother who was shooting at the troll, trying to distract him. Now, I don't mind a challenge in my games. I have played Dark Souls and loved it. But Dark Souls isn't cheap like this game! But I'm not done yet... After we died, we restarted the checkpoint and tried again. The troll didn't spawn back! So we couldn't just leave the area. I went back to the main menu to see if I can restart the chapter, but they don't have that option. I had to restart the whole game! This kind of stuff shouldn't happen in games these days! It infuriates me... I didn't restart the game. The only thing I liked is the controls. They feel right. But other than that, I really can't find anything redeeming. I really tried to like this game too. I don't recommend this to anyone. If you're a Lord of The Rings fan, you should give it a try, but just rent it. Overall, I give this game a 4.50/10. Thanks for reading!
This Game is a must buy!!!
I played this game through with my brother and we are continuing our second playthrough now and for all you people stuck in mirkwood or nordinbad you can continue if you play online through that level and switch back to offline i know this because i have done it
The best of the best
this game is so much fun my friend and I played this game for hours it is beyond fun you get hooked immeaditly
It's great! But it's not without its flaws
This game is all around great! My only beef with it is the enemies which will make you tear your hair out. Having to strike even the most simple and weak enemies what feels like dozens of times can get quite repetitive and annoying. But other than that this game seems to shine everywhere else! From the great controls to the splitscreen co-op this game is a buy! That is if you're a gamer who can remain calm during some frustration!
Best LOTR not on PC
War in the North is the fusion of an RPG engine similar to Dragon Age with a well crafted storyline based in the Tolkien universe. The graphics vary from breath-taking to bland. The sound and score standout as vibrant and beautiful, however the voiceover work is just shy of dreadful. Gameplay and combat is smooth, and leveling is balanced. This game really shines with its co-op multiplayer that is dynamic and merits good replay value. One major issue is a serious glitch that involves not being able to load the Mirkwood missions, there by preventing you from finishing the game. WB games insists this glitch was resolved with the latest patch, however the glitch still crops up from time to time. Not all owners experience this glitch, but if you wish to purchase this game, you need to consider this fact. Overall I was very pleased with this game and would welcome a continuation of the series visiting another era in the Tolkien universe.
Great game. But glitches need to be fix Asap
I bought this game for coop play with my wife and I was not disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed Borderlands and have been searching for something to replace that void. Finally, we found a great coop experience in Lord of the Rings: War in the North. First of all, I will say there are many similarities to Borderlands. You level up and then assign attribute points (strength, dexterity, etc) and then assign a skill point to a skill tree (a la Borderlands). Throughout the game you collect a lot of weapons/items and similar to the vending machines in Borderlands, there are portals where you can sell/buy items. This is great as your inventory can fill quickly. You can find incredible weapons and make them unique (like Borderlands) with certain magical stones, which is really cool.
