Was this meant to be a PS2 game??
On par with last-gen games. Poor gameplay mixed terribly with out-of-sync graphics leading to a boring and predictable game. I read reviews prior to the games release, however still made the purchase and was thoroughly disappointed. Wait until the price drops to $20 (or in Risen 2's case lower) and take a trip into the past with these pPS2-like graphics and PSone-like gameplay. Where is Crash Bandicoot?

Don't waste your money
I tried to write a review earlier, and don't know if it actually went through. SO, here I am again......lol
Please don't waste your money on this game. The whole think just stinks with bad sound effects, story line, controller set-up, and especially the fact that you can't read a thing of what they do have written because the words or so small. I don't know about you, but I'd like to know my stats and the qualities of my weapons and armor, not to mention whatever else I have in inventory. But I can't, even on my 40 inch lcd tv, because the words are so small that they run together and I can't make them out for nothing.

Not a good game at all........
Review for Ps3 version...For one, the sound effects are terrible. MOst don't fit what the characters are doing. And, your follower makes sounds like some wild beast which makes you want to turn around to see if there's something creeping up behind you. Ok, two is the fighting, jumping, running and over-all view range you have... You can't really do a decent block. And then there's the fact that the so called lock on doesn't keep the enemy in a centered forward view, and you have to constantly worry about trying to swing the camera around to keep them centered as you're fighting. But that's all I've got time to talk about those aspects. My biggest problem with the game is being able to view and read the words!!!!!!! I have a decent sized TV and the words are still too small!! I think they want us to go out and buy bigger, more expensive Television sets just to be able to read whatever the words are supposed to say. I can't afford to go out and do such a thing. To be able to get the TV needed to be able to read those small words, I'll have to get a screen as big as the local theaters' have. But then again, who's to say that the words will even be legible after doing that?!?! I gave up after 4 hours of play. I can't play a game that I can't even read the stats, weapon strengths or even item names in the menu. Oh, which reminds me.. the mapping system really sucks too!

Worst RPG in years, feels Last Gen.
ok my first ten minutes of the game seemed promising,
however that was not the case. though the graphics might look good at first
there's a terrible amount of Pop-In frame clipping and even slowdown.
after you get through these grueling cutscenes,
you are treated to being close to naked and supplies are so expensive as are skills, you are vulnerable to just about everything and everyone.
you are sent by the inquisition to go and join a group of pirates run by a leader named steelbeard (how original) well before you ever get the chance you will be humiliated by fighting some crabs on the beach.
they can lock you into
unbreakable patterns where they can kill you without you ever being able to swing.
combat is so clunky I barely know where to begin..
blocking blows is spotty at best and your sword swings are painfully slow while enemies swing really fast by comparison and as such, you will die many frustrating and horribly needless deaths. the whole parry system could have been fun as well but instead turns out to be a chore (hold parry until enemy attacks then attack and repeat process over and over)
sailing seemed like it might be a fun aspect of the game, againthey ruined this since you do not actually sail any ships, you merely give direction and voila! you're there. yet another flaw in what could have been a very good game.
about the only good points are dynamic weather and the extremely colorful language they chose for this game (which most likely will offend some people)
I had really high hopes but it's so broken I gave up after an hour of play so there's not much more for me to write except don't even bother with this game in the bargain bin because even then it's no bargain.
Graphics: very good but marred by frequent framerate studder, horrible pop in and other issues too numerous to list.3 stars
Controls: awkward and clunky. animations are terribly stiff and awkward looking not natural at all, could have used another year of polish. one star
Sound: satisfactory, anthony hopkins (or a sound alike) delivers a good narrative but otherwise rather unremarkable 3 stars
Gameplay: stiff animations and a horrible framerate render this almost unplayable.
the controls are horrible and the learning curve is really high. the skill trees are basic at best and even when you finally fill up a skill it seems to have little to no impact upon the gameplay. one star
Fun: it just isn't fun. fighting the camera, fighting overpowered enemies and having to spend more gold then you have on a single skill point make this
an exorcise in frustration and not even remotely fun. One Star
Overall: a train wreck of an rpg that really had potential. sadly that potential was wasted as is any money spent on this game, even with the extra dlc (air tower and treasure isle) I doubt many will be patient enough to get that far. a two star game at best and the only reason for Two Stars is the graphics look really good (when there's no glitches pop up etc. also the dynamic day/night and weather effects looked great otherwise a title that should be avoided by all but the most hardcore gamers that can overlook serious mechanical flaws.

Should have put more time into design
the game is a lil lagy. there was alot of copy and paste in the characters on the island. they should have put as much time into the graphics of the characters as they did the water that you cant even swim in for example. the thing that bothered me the most about the game is that on the main missions once you defeat the final character mara the game is over, you have to start over. thats bs, so if you dont do all the side quests and find all the treasures and what not before then your screwed. For sum one who liikes to play the games for what they are and then when missions are over i like to get my trophies for ps3 network and to not evenbe able to get them with out having to start completely over......whackkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glitches
I liked the way the first one was setup, but it had a ton of glitches, for them to talk about fixing the clone glitch in the pointers makes me wonder if they fixed any of the other ones....

Fable?
This game for some reason to me looks very similar to fable games, maybe its just me...the images look very close to fable 2 and if it ends up having the same type of style i would be very glad.

Hmmm?
This game does look pretty good but so did Dead Island and i should not have to remind everyone how that game was on release -.-. Hope Deep Silver gets it right this time.

Sharing a little bit of friendly advice/knowledge.
I am currently playing/enjoying Risen 1 and I'm looking forward to playing Risen 2 it looks very promising and to those who are unsure of whether or not to get this game I'd recommend waiting for the reviews first, also to clarify this game is being published by Deep Silver but it's being developed by Piranha Bytes a German game developer best known for creating the Gothic RPG game series and the first Risen game. Rock on fellow gamers!
