the best KOF yet
Large selection of characters and modes, the best 2D fighter since Super Street Fighter. This holds its own with the competition, and is highly polished!

In the words of M. Bison: YES! YES!
Gonna be short and sweet with this one, gameplay is classic King of Fighters goodness but still accessible to players. Of course there is one flaw in this game, overpowered bosses which are just a staple of SNK but I feel Ash Crimson is too overbalanced being that his projectiles and flames can cover 90% of the board. You can beat him though, he's just as frustrating as Gill. Graphics are amazing and I love the backgrounds though at the same time none were as breathtaking as one in King of Fighters 12 which I think had the best backgrounds of all time even though there were few of them. Character roster, while not breaking the barrier, is still large and with fan favourites. There are multiple modes, decent tutorial though I will say that STXT currently has the best tutorial i've experienced. Online isn't the best though at the end of hte day I have enough friends to fight against. Also, you may still find the versions with the 4-Disk CD for free with it. So go and buy this.

This is the KOF I know
This game is fantastic. Over 30 characters, 18 stages, tons of modes, awesome soundtrack, and amazing graphics. The gameplay feels very smooth and natural. All the characters feel very balanced. The stages just look awesome and theres lots of detail in them. I love how all the characters have written dialogue in arcade mode it makes each playthrough feel different than the last. In character select you also have 10 preset colors for each character or you can create up to 5 of your own. There is lots of replay value in this game for the offline player and the online as well. If you want a true classic fighter and replay value this is it. If you felt burned by KOF XII dont worry this game runs circles around it and then some!!!

Forget Street Fighter
In 2D fighting right now it does not get any better than this. KOF always had appealing characters and a good gameplay but this one is REALLY good. more than 30 characters, some new game mechanics make this game a must have. The only con would be that depending on your opponent's and your connection, online matches might lag but that is not just this game many other games have a similar issue so I wouldn't be really worried about that.

King of Fighters XIII with a Flawless comeback!
I saw this game thinking it was going to be like the previous one but when i saw the amount of characters and the fact that they added the classic Iori made it much better.

KOF returns in fine form
2D fighting fans have a lot to be excited about with The King Of Fighters 13--it's an impressive return to form for the series. Many characters and features that were missing in 12 have been added back here. As in KOF 12, the backrounds and fighter animations don't disappoint. The foreground spites have been shrunk down significantly...but I assume this is to keep things running at optimal speed, so it's an acceptable sacrifice.
There are still some things lacking from this latest KOF outing, though...such as new characters. Saiki is the only truely new playable character, and many of the fresh faces from KOF 11 are still absent (unless they show up later as DLC). Also, a 3 on 3 tag mode ala KOF 11 would have been nice; you still pick a team of 3 here, but you have to progress through the match elimination style. Then there's the issue of online play: The netcode has been greatly improved over KOF 12, but it's far from perfect--so expect some laggy matches.
All in all, The King Of Fighters 13 is definitely an improvement over 12 and a solid addition to any 2D fighting fan's collection. Just don't hold your breath for smooth online play.

Big Improvement Over XII, But Online Still Lacking
The Pros
+ 30 characters, including several fan favorites missing from the last game--we get the '94 Gals team (Mai, King, Yuri) and the XI NESTS Team (K', Maxima, Kula) back, along with Takuma, Vice, and Billy Kane. Iori at full power (with flames) has also been announced as DLC--can't WAIT to get that.
+ Several modes added that were missing from the skeletal XII--an arcade mode with a final boss and endings, a story mode, tutorial mode, survival, time trial, mission mode, and more
+ The 2D graphics are just as amazing here as they were in XII--the characters and stages look phenomenal
+ Gameplay is faster, and has been altered to allow more creative offense, making the game a lot more frenetic and fun overall
+ A color edit mode has been added, allowing you some crazy options--like Hulk Shen Woo or Kensou as Bruce Lee. They also sneak in some alternate costumes as well, like Kyo's classic costume. I'm having a blast with it.
The Cons
- Online. They stuck with the same company that did the abysmal netcode for XII--which is what I hated most about that game. While it's better here, the game still lags compared to Ultimate MVC3 or Street Fighter IV. To the point that it's hard to strategize or do more than basic combos because it feels like a gamble.
- The story mode itself is basically lots of scrolling text. As to the story itself, Ash's haughty attitude gets on my nerves, so seeing so much of the focus on him gets on my nerves. He just isn't that good a main character to me.
----
THIS is the game that XII--basically a $60 demo--should've been, hands down. The game is a blast to play, they actually went all out with adding different single player options, and it looks as stunning as ever. There isn't as much handholding as with other fighting games--no X-Factor or Ultra Combos here--so you'll have to earn your victory.
But the netcode! Ugh.
It's not the horror show that XII was, with matches reduced to slide shows, but it's a struggle to play consistently when your inputs are so far off. I don't get why they stuck with the old company doing the online play when they did such a godawful job last time. This is REALLY going to hobble the game's marketability--and considering that KOF isn't that popular in the US, they needed all the help they could get.
My recommendation? If you have a PS3 and friends to play with locally, or you have an Xbox 360, then buy it. Otherwise, I'd wait until it gets patched.

VERY NICE IMPROVEMENT OVER KOF 12!
Graphics are now HD and you can see the background are beautifully presented, the online experience has been much improved and most of the online matches I had were smooth. KOF fans must have this and you will enjoy the battle as much as Iori does that to Mai!

NEO GEO would have been very proud!
o.k. i just got this game at launch through pre-order and being a hardcore KOF and SNK fan i'm really impressed with this This should have been called the KOF - the comeback. and what a comeback it is from 12. this is SNK's apology for releasing 12 the fighting is mad smooth the graphics are very crisp especially in 1080p. now i only played for a couple of hours but i can already tell this came will have potential. the only thing i had a problem with was it seemed kinda hard to pull off special moves but i think i just need to break my controller in a little heh heh. the bonus soundtrack is beautiful and also a plus. i recommend this game to the casual and elite NEO GEO players. you know who you are!
