Legend of Heroes 2: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch
A few small improvents for combat, but a weak plot
Legend of Heroes 2: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch makes use of many plot cliches, but uses some of them to the point of frustration. A common plot device to move the game forward is being arrested or captured by someone and needing to be rescued. This plot device is used at least five times during the game and it grows old rather quickly.
The characters also suffer in this game since many of them are introduced in the last chapter or so and you get to spend hardly any time with them. I also found the male and female lead to be rather dull as well. The game just feels like it lacks any character development or growth so all of the characters end up feeling a bit flat.
If you played the previous title in this series then you know what to expect in this game.
Much like the last game you'll find that there are no random encounters, but you'll enter combat when you come into contact with an enemy unit. The enemy units may also try to avoid you if you are more powerful then they are.
The game also continues its strategic nature in that spells and skills can only be used over a set distance so your placement in comparison to the enemy is something to consider.
On the downside the game still has the same combat flaws as the last game. You are unable to move and cast spell on the same turn so your spell casters will largely rely on either skipping a turn at the start of battles or getting in close and personal with the enemy. The game still continues with the over-powered finishing moves as well and since almost everything you do fills the bar you'll be able to call up these attacks in almost every enemy encounter. And, the game still suffers from the flaw that if you attack an enemy unit with a spell or skill and that enemy as already been defeated then you'll simply waste your turn.
The pet system is a bit more useful though since you can feed a pet different foods to bring about different effects, but the pets still bring you a lot of items that you can't use or don't need. Then, again if you play this game smart you don't really have any need for healing items or mp restoring items anyway.
Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch uses an overhead sprite view with manga graphic and animated cut scenes, but many of the animated cut scenes are rather short and reserved for what you see in the sacred mirrors at the five shrines. The sprites themselves are still enjoyable to look at the game overs an extremely nostalgic feel in its visuals.
The game lacks any voice acting, but does offer a solid musical score that adds to the mood.
Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch offers little in terms of lasting appeal to be honest. The story itself is rather middle of the road at best and insulting at worse. The game doesn't really have any rare items to look for either. The game also lacks any post game content like Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion.

this game was fun. i love you get to see miles and avin. i cant wait to play all the others im so happy!!!!!
Pretty good but not the best
Personally i really like this game. classic rpg style graphics. turn based battles. the game is a little to easy but the story is pretty good but kinda gets off track but then back on track. reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaally long storyline and lots of dialogue. all in all a WICKED SWEET game for the price!
