this is a hard game to review, but this is a fun game, the racing works and you have a good set of weapons to take out rivals. but it's easy to crash into walls. I do like this game

In need of a Pure opinion.
Thw WipEout franchise has been around for a while, since that age of the PS1. It is obvious to see that with a decade or two to learn about how to refine the game, the developers have WipEout Pure the ability to out shine its predecessors and its competetors. The Wipeout series looks very similar to the F-Zero series, but with the separating fact the the tracks and scenery are more brilliant in the way that they seem more realistic. Also, suring the races in Wipeout Pure, there are panels on the track the unlock random abilities for a one time use, Abilities like; Trubo boosts, rockets, seeker missiles, mines, et cetera. The ships to choose from are allighend to different racing teams, and each ship has its own slightly different personality. All of the ships look wonderfuly designed, but not all of them handle that well for me, but they may be better for another player's touch. There is also free, I repeat, FREE, DLC to download from the official wipeout pure website. These DLC packs usually contain one ship, and two tracks to race in. Overall, A good game if you want to buy a pick-up-and-play racing game with explosive weapons.

The future of racing is...now!
I've been a fan of the series ever since it was originally released on the Playstation back in 1995. Before then, there weren't many examples of good futuristic racing games and only a small fraction of those ever seeing release on the home consoles (F-Zero is the only one that comes to mind). But fast forward 15 years or so and now even handheld machines are powerful enough to handle beautifully rendered racing games...enter Wipeout! Wipeout is a futuristic racing game that features anti-gravity racers speeding along on tracks with seemingly impossible banking curves and loops all to the tune of some great electronica or trance style music. All of the elements of the game combine to create an atmosphere that you won't find in any other game and it simply has to be experienced to be understood. The track selection is decent for a console game, but keep in mind that this is a handheld game! The 16 tracks provides a deep challenge to all players from novice to experienced and should provide many hours of entertainment while perfecting your runs and taking out the other racers. The music and sound effects work well with the game with appropriate weapon, engine thrust and collision sounds, but the sound does sound a bit "tinny" at times (like an echo inside a can) because of the small speakers built into the PSP, but this is something that is inherent to the system and shouldn't be a knock on the game itself. Outside of the sound effects, the music fits with the theme and spirit of the game which is not surprising when you look back on the history of this franchise. In terms of gameplay, the game is actually more like a rally racer in the sense that the crafts drift on the track, but the game never feels out of control and after playing a few races, you'll see that the "pedal to the metal" mindset will not get you a win in every race in this game. Careful attention to the track layout and judicious use of the accelerator and the left and right air brakes will go a lot further to getting you to the finish line in first place. After all of this, how could we forget the graphics. This is one of the best looking games on the system and is only marginally outdone by it's sequel, Wipeout Pulse. It's just amazing that a handheld can produce graphics of this quality and when you see the speeds at which your craft will move down the track, you'll be amazed as well. The bottom line is the game is a lot of fun. It looks great, controls well and even supports multiplayer which has resulted in the creation of online clans and leagues of people who race against each other on a regular basis. With that said, this game may not appeal to everyone, but only because it isn't a traditional racing game that uses vehicles with wheels. Don't let negative attitudes sway you from this title. If you were interested in it at all, you won't be disappointed in any game in this franchise.

Don't waste your money
This game left me shivering. I thought it was a good buy for **$, now I know why it was that low. First off, I don't think any game was successful on this kind of racing game, so why make them?!? There are only about 7 or 8 "spacecrafts" that you can "fly" with. There are also weapons that lay on the 5 tracks, so pick them up and destroy your opponents. Easy, right? Wrong! It's impossible to be accurate so you literally have to be within shotgun range for any hope to hit somebody. Another bad thing about the game is that there is no multi-player (probably because no one would be on WLAN). This game was a complete failure, don't even try wipeout pulse, it's just as bad as wipeout pure. Graphics aren't good, but that's because graphics are never great on the PSP. Take my advice, don't buy this game.
