Simple, Frantic Shooting Fun
Geometry Wars got it's start as a mini-game in Project Gotham Racing 2 for Xbox 360, then it evolved into a stand-alone Xbox Live game, and now we have this disc-based Wii port. It's a simple, flashy top-down shooter where you navigate your ship in all 8 directions firing at enemies within a confined space (envision Tempest and Asteroids smashed together with neon fireworks everywhere). The graphics are attractive, but very basic--comprised entirely of colorful, wire-frame characters of geometrical shape. The trancey electronic music serves as a fitting soundtrack to all the space-themed chaos.
There are three modes of play: Galaxies, Retro Evolved, and Multiplayer. Galaxies is the 1-player campaign mode--where you destroy enemies to collect "geoms" to buy helper satellites and open up new solar systems / planets. Each stage features increasingly clever twists...such as asteroid waves, mines, maze-like walls, ect. The levels never end; the goal is to simply accumulate points and survive as long as possible. Retro Evolved mimics the original Xbox Live game, and is a stripped down version of Galaxies mode without geoms or planet unlocking. Multiplayer is similar to Retro Evolved, only it's for 2 players (co-op or challenge).
Geometry Wars: Galaxies is a great old-school style shooter, and it's every bit as difficult. You'll need a lot of skill and patience to unlock everything in Galaxies mode. As such, the replay value will vary depending on how much you like these type of games. Still, I recommend it for some quick shooting fun...especially with the Classic controller.

Pretty good reason for retro gamers to buy the Wii
The Wii is a modern system. So who would have expected a remake of a classic like this. It's amazing. I recommend the classic controller style to everybody though. This is crud with a Wii remote and Nunchuk. But everyone who's got a bit of $ to spare should check it out.

Put that copy of COD down, it's geometry time!
I can't go give a game a 10 out of 10 willy nilly. It has to be truly excellent. And that's what this package is, truly excellent. Geometry Wars started as a minigame inside of the game Project Gotham Racing 2 for the Xbox. Due to the success of the minigame, Geometry Wars Retro Evolved was but on the Xbox 360's Live Marketplace. It then spawned a sequel. And that spawned Geometry Wars Galaxies for the Wii and Nintendo DS. This isn't Retro Evolved. This is Galaxies. Now if you don't know what Geometry Wars is, I'll tell you. It's very retro-like game where you shoot down multiple shapes. It's a very hardcore survival game. There can be one-hundred shapes at a time inside the grid making it very tricky. That's where the Battle Drone steps in. You can level him up in many different areas to make him the strongest partner around. Although, the Battle Drone is exclusive to Galaxies, he can be helpful when he's around. Galaxies mode is basically Campaign mode, except with no story. This is the main flare of Geometry Wars Galaxies. There is also Co-op, Versus, and Retro Evolved. Co-op is a two player mode where you try to score points together. Versus is another two-player mode where you are trying to get more points than the other player. And Retro Evolved is the game that's on Xbox Live Marketplace. You can even send Retro Evolved to your DS through DS Download Play and play it. You have a pretty big collection of stuff here. And each one of these modes are great. So put down that copy of Black Ops, and start playing Geometry Wars!

a great, retro game...
I bought this game a couple weeks ago, and it's worth the ten dollars. You may think, "Oh jeez that's just weird. Geometry?? REALLY???", Well oh well. It's just a retro shooter. I think it's very creative and addicting, and if you love that, buy this.

Shouldn't have gone console
Geometry wars was an excellent way to procrastinate while on the PC. The controls were nice and it was a great way to pass time. Now, on the wii, its controls are much more intuitive, but it lacks the motivation to go on. The graphics are fine, and the challenge is good for prolonged action, but this happens to just be one of those games that could have been great, but wasn't. It is a great way to pass time, and provides a healthy challenge, but it lacks the support of a storyline and originality. The repetitiveness of the game gets old after the first few levels, and while you can play locally, perhaps with someone on the DS, wi-fi is only there to share scores. Geometry wars was and still is a time waster game, and no matter how fun it can be, it can get old fast.

sweetness...
This game will be awsome!! I think a major update from Retro Evolved is the online mode. Hopefully it won't be just a leaderboard, but will have realtime co-op and versus. Even if it doesn't have online multiplayer, it will be a really sweet game.

Looking forward to this
Like many I have played the Geometry Wars on the Xbox 360, and the game deserves all the praise it gets. A game like this being made for the Wii is outstanding and will be a welcome addition to many gamers collections. Also for anyone who has not played it, Geometry Wars does not require you to do math and or geometry lol, its simply geometric shapes used in a space style shooter that for being so simplistic has outstanding graphics and playability.

its 4 geeks, not nerds. u newbs.
this game is a shooter much like Galaga, except much faster paced and that the enemies aren't aliens, but rather homocidal shapes (that's where geometry comes it. no math involved whatsoever.). in galaga, you shot at things coming straight at you from above. in this game, you can move freely, and shoot in any direction you want, and see how long you can live, since they come from every angle. sometimes they spawn a single enemy, and sometimes they spawn an army. it's got very innovative gameplay, i have the demo of a previous geometry wars game on my 360, and it is sweet! black holes, snakes, kamikazi squares, enemies that break up into smaller ones and the "magnet effect" enemies. it's retro, yet new and innovative. it's a new classic, a sleeper hit.

Intriguing
I must admit, I've never been one to enjoy anything pertaining to the word "Geometry". Yet, upon my recent acquisition of a Wii, I was willing to look at just about any game review. The entertainment value of "Wii Sports" is limited after all. I'm rather looking forward to ths title now. It looks like the sort of thing that would draw one's attention in unexpectedly, and it would be quite a while before such captive attention would be released. Not to mention, the screenshots are gorgeous.
