This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers

I'm very amazed that this game slipped past my "RPG Radar".... I've been known to look for a few diamonds in the rough in my day and I'm quite happy I found this one. Now some disclaimers: this is not a game for casual gamers. It might not even be a game for an occasional-RPG player. This is an older-school RPG where you have hundreds of different weapons to find, hundreds of pieces of armor, tons of neat little items, books, etc. This is one of those games that when you go to a blacksmith you MUST read all of the little notes on each weapon to decide which to use. It is what I've always referred to as a "thinking man's game." You have something like 10-15 "equipment slots" allowing you to use rings, necklaces, gauntlets... all sorts of stuff in addition to your basic "left arm, right arm, helmet, and armor" slots. A loot-lovers dream. (and tons of places to buy/find/steal the aforementioned equipment).
The gameplay itself is somewhat unique in the RPG world. The combat is much more "Kingdom of Amalur" than "Dragon Quest 8", you have 8 quick-slots that you can put any combination of melee attacks, special attacks, spells, healing or mana-related items, and combat is in realtime. It isn't perhaps as detailed or exciting as Fable 2 or God of War's combat systems but it does follow along the same formula, albeit with RPG-related damage/healing/buff and debuff numbers popping up at appropriate times.
You kinda pick a "class" in the beginning but your character is free to pick skills from each different "class" each time you level up. Priest skills involve summoning and healing, Mage skills are your typical offensive magic, Ranger skills are long-range bow attacks and Warrior is your hack-and-slash specialist. You are free to pick skills from any class as you level up and you are also offered a skill-tree called "Dragon Slayer" that has more miscellaneous skills as well as your melee techniques (One handed, Sword-and-Shield, Dual Wielding, and Hand-to-Hand.) There are tons of places to go and TONS of sidequests, most of which you can handle in any way you see fit. Example: A lady asks you to deliver a message. If you deliver it to the blacksmith he gives you a discount at his shop. If you open the letter and discover it is an adulterous love letter... you can give it to the jilted husband and he'll reward you himself (but the blacksmith will RAISE his prices and the lady will be quite upset.) The writing of the game is VERY funny and talking to the hundreds upon hundreds of random people is half the fun.... I laughed out loud many, many times which is quite rare for videogames or really any medium.
The graphics are very nice and immersive. The music is wonderful and the voicework, mostly done in British-Isle accents, is quite well done and humorous.
For the under $20 you'd pay for the Dragon Knight Saga you'll get over 100 hours of deep, funny, well-done RPG goodness. The Atlus company that made this game (They've made many other good games... I believe they did the Disgaea series and the Shin Megami Tensei games) deliver a great product and this game is no exception. If you pick this up PLEASE give it some time. Like most longer RPGs it takes a little while to get going... but at least up to the point where I am in the game it has been well worth getting through the slow beginning. $20 is a rather small risk compared to the potential upside of this game if you are a hard-core RPG lover.

Ok, before I say ANYTHING else, let it be known that I WANTED to enjoy this game a lot more than I actually did. I played Ego Draconis, was mildly amused, but the bugs kept pulling me out of it too much. Now that I heard they fixed a lot of the issues with Dragon Knight Saga, I figured I'd give it another shot. Sure enough, it does run a bit smoother than Draconis did to some degree, however, now I can't even get as far as I did in the original because the game literally won't let me. Every time I load up the game, graphics issues make the game unplayable for me. Sometimes the screen becomes blank white, sometimes the models are too dark or don't load correctly, and sometimes it just doesn't load an image and tells me it's there. I tried to download this game to my hard drive, but for some reason it keeps saying there is an error with the disk, and that it is damaged or scratched, which is very disconcerting as I bought the game brand new. I am going to give this game another shot, but as of right now, I'm very disappointed. I like the premise, the story comes together nicely, but it's almost like the game doesn't WANT me to play it, which is a rather baffling concept.

I realize this is an old post, but it really just sounds like your disk was messed up. I had this same issue with my Dragon Age 2 disk (which was pre-ordered and brand new). I returned it, got a new one and said issues were gone. I really think since the price has dropped, perhaps investing in a new copy might be a plan. (which i know sucks, but hey)

This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers

I ask myself how did i miss such as great RPG. Maybe I was caught up in Dragon Age 2 or just lost time. I began to play RPGs here recently and started to get a good feel and great taste for the games as Call Of Duty is so played out and not long enough to enjoy. Lets say you get about 100 hours in this game and still want more. 3 primary classes to choose and play and tons of fun and scaving to be done. I wasn't to happy with the graphics but this is a must get for you RPG fans, a great game to play hours at a time and do not be surprised to look at the clock at 3am as time will fly most certainly when you play this RPG.

This game is perfect for: hardcore gamers

I purchased Divinity II when it first came out and although it received mediocre reviews, I enjoyed it. However with the news of an updated version of the core game combined with an expansive add on made me to decide to play through again. To be honest, I did not notice the changes to the original game but it was still enjoyable and I found the add on to be immersive and filled with quests that were more than the typical "fetch this" that predominates most RPG's it seems.
Add in the reduced asking price, this is definitely a game that anyone who enjoys action RPG's should pick up and will definitely enjoy.

Games have been getting easier and easier recently. With the rise in casual gaming, more hardcore games with depth have suffered. However, then enters Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga, which is a game that loves its roots. This is an RPG that is similar to those on the PC that stick to depth instead of making things easier. Take Dragon Age II for example, which is a game that I completed recently. Dragon Age II was made so much more "friendly" in its design, yet the design felt so incredibly lazy. Why were environments repeated so much throughout the game? This is why Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga is a breath of fresh air in the current gaming market.

Positives:

- Two Games Included - Ego Draconis Remastered Version (60+ Hours to 100%), Flames of Vengeance Expansion (30-40 Hours to 100%)

- New Graphics Engine Improvements - More detailed armor, richer environmental textures, better lighting, etc.

- Framerate Improved - Now runs silky smooth!

- An Interesting Story and Universe - Well done voice acting with some great humor; an epic tale!

- Lots of Replay Value - With 90 hours or more of gameplay, you'll easily find more stuff to do in the game your second time around.

- Soundtrack Disc, Art Book for free!

Negatives:

- Loading - Even when installed to the Xbox 360's HDD, loading can take a while.

- A Little Rough Around The Edges - The Dragon Knight Saga is polished compared to Ego Draconis' recent release, but it's still not perfect and has some issues.

Other than some minor technical issues, The Dragon Knight Saga is a great RPG with tremendous value. I highly recommend at least checking it out, but I'd definitely buy it if I were you.

One of the best rpg's i've ever played. 40$ dollars well spent. Over 100 hours of solid game play. One of the best fighting systems i've experienced in an rpg. Story keeps you hooked the whole way through. The graphics are great and the amazing world you experiance makes it than much better. Not to mention you get to be a dragon. Overall i don't think there is a negative thing i could say. I enjoyed this game for weeks.Do yourself a favor and pick it up.

I really love this game. It has kind of the free open concept like Fable. There are a lot of places to just wonder around and discover. I haven't made it into a particular mission path yet. So far, I am just enjoying wondering around and figuring things out.
