Suprised by this one
Bought this game on a whim (the store manager wanted to get rid of the box with the pillow case and mouse pad lol) I helped him out. Started playing the game and got imersed in the unique game play and charicter interaction. It was a long story but played well the whole time and I loved it. Not comparing this in anyway to Oblivion but it takes the time similar to that, so if you are looking for a game where you can finish in 30 hours this is definetly not the game. If you are looking for an rpg with a great amount of strategy and teamwork with a fantastic story then this is a must buy for you. I did not think anything of this game but Its been awhile since ive been as suprised by a game.
Good but Long
First, let me say that this game is hardcore. It's ridiculously long, but I still love it. Some parts kinda lulled, but every generation felt pretty fresh. This game has flaws, but I have the feeling that the budget wasn't very high for this game. I recommend this game to those who are looking for good strategy and are in for the long haul.
This game is pretty much about 3 things. Fighting, crafting, and sweet talking the ladies.
The battle system is really good. I just wish the graphics were better since I play on a 46 inch. But it's no biggie. You use 6 people in your group and each character gains Ability Points every turn to spend on various abilities. You equip each character with skills and they can use different types of skills depending on the character and the weapon they are using. For example, you can equip a water skill if they have a water slot. Abilities can also be combined for special skills by either having multiple characters participate or even just one guy can perform the skill on his own if he has the required skills and AP to do it. Now one thing that I didn't find out until the 5th generation, was that you can skip animations by pushing B or just turning them off all together. This saves a lot of time and you will want to do this once you're trying to blaze through to get to the next part of story.
During each generation, you have 3 different women who's affection for you changes depending on your choices. At the end, you pick one(they have to have some affection for you) and you create your new hero, who is different depending on the woman you chose.
Most of your other time will be spent crafting items and spells are trying to earn in-game achievements which offer you nice rewards. This part of the game is fun in its own way.
The rest of the game is just moving from point to point and fighting battles and doing story and the occasional "quest" areas which allow you to find nice treasures.
There's also a light and dark meter which will open up other events depending on where you stand.
If you want to get the true end, then I recommend looking it up before you start playing so you can know what to do. I didn't and it turns out that I didn't get ANY of the extra characters that you needed to get the true ending. Oh well. I'm not going to play it again any time soon. Time to start playing Zero!! have fun!
The great march of epic.
This game is awesome in it's own right. For those tactic style rpg fans, you'll be blown away, because it is on the consol, the sprites look really good. I saw the next game, and game following and it keeps getting better. This game is obscenely long. It took me 3 months to reach the normal end, and another month and a half to go through the true ending. those 3 months where religiously playing too (an injury keeping you from getting up sucks, but video games got us covered =-)). The story was really good and I can't wait to get the next game, and the one after that.
I also really like that a little less then half way through I had to completely change my play style to compensate for stronger bosses (went from mob, to sending in tank to "hold" the boss and keeping party way back, preparing for big attacks.) Even then I had to go back to a mosh pit style against some of the harder boss fights with 4 boss enemies on the board that would be difficult to take on any one of them alone.
The hoops and hurdles of fire and lightning to see the true end are totally worth it, the true end is really the best way to finish up.

High quality game
I was at first wary of getting record of agarest war because of how it initially looked, but once I actually got the game, my prejudices were completely blown away. Keep in mind that, visually, this is a gameboy game on a xbox, but only visually. And frankly, it is really cool watching the little sprites on the screen doing the many, many, excessive, many attacks and combos. The story is extremely deep and involved, especially if you get all the events by making the right choices and having the right alignment (despite what people may say, you can get it all in one play through). The characters are all engaging and interesting with their own unique personalities. And the change in lead character through out the game helps keep it fresh. And if your an anime fan, such as myself, I feel you'll catch to the story real quickly. It just has that feel to it. Even if you play on normal, once you reach about half way through the game, the boss difficulty is really high and you'll have to think and plan instead of mobing the boss. On hard, this is by far one of the most difficult games I have ever played. Near hopless situations forcing you to use every resource you have and then some. If you crack under pressure then this is not for you. If you love extreme difficulty that puts you in moments of, "this is it, either me or him" then I recomend this game. Honestly, customization isn't that great. But there is ALOT so if you wan't it all good luck. I didn't even try theres so many weapons, armor, etc. Controls aren't too bad, but they take a while to get use to. The Music is well done. I won't say the music is on par with games such as the tales series of final fantasy series, but the score is good and has an appealing sound. I will warn you now, on normal, I religously played this games atleast 5 days a week, between 4-7 hours a day and after 2 months I just hit the final strech of the true ending. The game is very long. Even if you don't take your time and skip alot of things. Don't get full hardy and say, "i'll rent it and beat it in a week" it isn't possible. So ya, great game, I recomend it to most anybody who want's a good RTS. I only discourage getting the game if you don't like really long games.
Come for the Characters, Stay for the Tactics
Pardon the headline. Record of Agarest War is a turn-based tactical RPG where the player takes the role of a hero, braves political turmoil and sacred wars across the continents, partners with a heroine, and passes on the mantle to their descendants across several generations to unite the nations and drive out the forces of darkness from the world. The player may choose from three difficulties, which impact the difficulty of battles, but do not affect the story. For this Xbox 360 edition, Microsoft Points are valid for purchasing uncommon and rare in-game equipment and enhancements that could otherwise be achieved through intense time investment. The highlights of the game for me are the player's interaction with the heroines of each generation, developing characters into fulfill key roles in combat, the character art and rich backgrounds during dialogue, and the funky electronica in some of the battles. Describing the battle system, the player places up to six combatants and chooses a formation. The combatants can be chosen from the present generation, characters who remain throughout the generations, captured monsters tamed for sweet justice, and with some searching, characters from previous generations. The formations that can be chosen allow for straight forward combat or a battlefield where different tiles provide bonuses and penalties that can alter the flow of combat. When the battle begins, the player can move their allies across the tile-based battlefield while the enemies move their units, then the action phase where players choose what attacks, abilities, or items will be used. Characters have extended areas where their position and direction allow them to use combo abilities with allies, reposition allies, allow slower allies to act at the same speed as quicker allies, and other benefits as characters develop. Enemies can use the same mechanic as well to inflict serious damage to one or more allies. On higher difficulties, using these extended areas and anticipating the enemies' extended areas make for some intense battles. For enemies you are certain you can defeat, there is an auto-battle feature which is nowhere as effective as deciding the actions of your team, but serves for weaker enemies. Character develop comes in the form of gaining experience to improve a character's level, which allows the player to allocate points in Strength (physical damage and accuracy), Vitality (physical defense and HP per level up), Agility (turn order and evasion), Intelligence (magic damage and magic defense), and Luck (accuracy and evasion, plus other things). Characters also learn new special attacks and gain passive abilities through leveling up that can assist them such as improving item drop rates, enhancing the attack of allies in the extended area, or denying a counter attack from an enemy. Characters also have proficiency in ten types of skills ranging from manipulating fire and darkness to combo and power attacks. The more characters use these abilities, the greater their proficiency comes, the more effective abilities in this category become. Characters have a number of skill slots where they can learn or unlearn abilities such as a Fire Ball, Power Attack, or a Heal and may vary additional skill slots based on the weapons the character equips. Characters have a predisposition to what attributes grow easily for them and which are difficult to improve. The player may also find components to craft weapons, armor, accessories, and items to create new equipment. Players may also enhance the effectiveness of existing equipment a limited number of times and may discover components to create even more powerful equipment or abilities as a result of enhancing items. Crafting recipes can be obtained through purchase, accomplishing feats, and finding recipes throughout the world. And while I could say more about the mechanics and system of the game, it may feel more like I'm giving tips on how to better handle the game world. Ins
Great tactical game
Its nice to see this game released at an affordable price if you happened to miss the collectors edition. The game play is pretty lengthy stretching over multiple generations of heroes, its nice to see them grow and evolve through the story. Your actions with the different ladies and who you chose will effect your new character's attributes and special attacks. Over all its a great game, although the sprites could have been HD, its a little blurry on bigger televisions. Great art, and a nice story, plus catchy music, if you like tactical RPGs get this one!
Is there somthing wrong with the site? This game has already came out, in fact they still have the limited/premium edition still on the site so why's it releasing again?
