A Ruthless Military Simulator
OFP:Elite is not a shooter it is a simulator, so don't try any kind of call of duty run n gun tactics. First off you can't run and shoot at the same time. Second trying to run at an enemy will instanty get you killed. Third this game takes strategy running head on towards an enemy base will probably get you killed, or at least get half your team killed. In call of duty you can usually take five shots to the face and live, and when you get hurt you can magically get your heath back somehow. Not in OFP you can often get shot once and die, but you usually die in two or three shots. If you get shot in the arm it is harder to aim, and getting shot in the leg you lose your ability to stand or crouch. If you do get hurt you can heal at a medic, but you don't get your heath back they just heal your injury so you can perform better. In games such as COD or MOH etc. you most often fight within ten feet of each other, and sniping about 50 feet. OPF has you often engage in firefights at about 200 meters with an assualt rifle without an kind of scope. You do any quickscope sniping because you normally snipe at 400 meters +. The game allows you command and control vehicles with ease. The AI is incredibly smart as your teammates follow your commands with ease and automaticly look for cover when fired apon, and will go prone if there is none. The enemy AI is just as smart to and can be very unforgiven. The graphics are not that great because the game is just a port of the 2001 OPF Cold War Crisis, so technicly it has 2001 graphics. The game has built in mission editor to allow create your own missions,so the game pretty much never ends. The mutiplayer is disconnected, but you can still hook up a ethernet cord and play system link with AI which pretty much the same thing. Overall this game is great i would recommend it for some looking for a challenging military experence. There is no backwords compatibilty so you only play on a regular Xbox.

The Definition of a Military Simulation.
It's not often that one can come across a game like Operation Flashpoint: Elite. It's one of those games that is so frustrating you can't put it down. It is a game grounded in sheer realism and that is evident from the get go. There are no health bars, but your character shows damage in specific locations. For example, if a grenade goes off around you,but it's not a lethal blow, your legs may be crippled and you'll have to crawl everywhere, or your arm might be hit and you'll have difficulty lining up your shots. It only takes about three shots for a death in this game, so shy away from Call of Duty run n' gun tactics and be prepared to take a more strategical approach. One of the many things I love about the game is that it challenges your leadership abilities and lets you design an assault plan, and have your team carry it out. It's always nice to see your sqaud execute the attack plan that you thought of and overwhelm the enemy. The graphics in this game are bad....but do not let that push you away, if you judge this game solely on the way it looks, you will have missed out on what I think to be the definitive modern combat experience. The animation is awful, as when running, the guys look like they are about to pee in their pants. The AI in OPE is great, on both sides of the war. Teammates and enemies alike will run for cover, and if caught out in the open, hit the dirt and return fire. Once the oppurtunity arises, they make a break for the nearest cover, and engage you. Another thing, in this game there is nothing on your HUD but an ammo counter and a compass. No grenade indicator telling you that a grenade is nearby. However, your sqaudmates will usually let you know when a grenade has been thrown. The enemies use the grenades efficiently, and will flush you out of cover, and just plain kill you with them. The controls are pretty standard to your basic shooters controls, and are quite responsive. Some movements can be carried over a little farther than you want them to, but it's not really a big deal. The storyline is nothing special, but it is a little interesting. Without spoiling anything I'll just say it spins a tale of an alternate history. This game is not a shooter, it is a military simulation. Do not expect to run up to an enemy and finish them at point blank range, they will bring you down with two or three shots before you are within fifty feet of them, unless of course you sneak up on them. There is also a level editor that let's you create your own missions. You can actually get quite creative with it. I'll finish up by saying that this game is not for people who want a Meda of Honor, or Call of Duty arcadey war experience. This is for gamers who like their games to be a challenge, and this game is one of the most challenging I've played. It's cheap, it's entertaining, so why not?

Most Realistic Console FPS To Date. Period.
Operation Flashpoint was originally released for PC in 2001. OFP was so realistic that the US Department Of Defense wanted their own version of the game for simulation training. So, shortly after the release of OFP, the DOD got VBS1 (Virtual Battlefield Systems 1). OFP was eventually ported to the XBOX as Operation Flashpoint Elite. OFPE is essentially the same game as the PC version with the exception of the Soviet single-player campaign. OFP is by far one of the most realistic simulators ever made. OFP features realistic hit detection, damage, realistic recoil, ballistics, realistic A.I., and of course a realistic single-player campaign. Currently, there are two sequels in the works for OFP : Operation Flashpoint 2 : Dragon Rising and Armed Assault 2, both of which will be released on the XBOX 360. Unfortunately OFP is not backwards compatible and will likely stay that way, so the only way to play OFP is on an original XBOX or PC.
